In the Begining... We Built Our Garden.

Our family started preparing to plant a garden a few months ago.  We decided to do a special kind of gardening called, "Square Foot Gardening". It's different because you use a mix of soils that give lots of nutrients and allow a lot of growth in a small area.We started by moving our play set to a position that would give lots of room for a garden area. Next we had to rake all the bark from one half of the play area to the other. When Dad and the boys finished the hard labor of building the raised garden beds. The next step was the soil. We raked bags of steer manure compost, filling the largest bed half way. We mix peat moss, vermiculite, limestone, and more steer manure compost, to fill the other half to the top(This is only the first and biggest bed).
Dad built a fence to keep the little kids out when they're not supposed to be in there and the  dog out at all times.

We put strings to show each square foot.
